A corner Chicago Workers Cottage with abundant natural light—already a rarity—became the foundation for a thoughtful transformation. Purchased after a quick flip, the home lacked the character and intentionality its architecture deserved, so our approach focused on restoring depth while improving daily function. A modest rear addition extended the footprint just enough to introduce a mudroom, expand the kitchen, while upstairs we reimagined the layout to include two full baths and a primary suite with an integrated office. At the heart of the home, custom walnut cabinetry anchors the kitchen and establishes a material language that carries throughout. Warm, familiar finishes are layered with intention—each element distinct on its own, forming a composition that feels collected, not constructed.
